Sample notes now name your lists and objects

Free sample notes in Shuttio now show each list and custom object by its reviewed name, with 'Files' and 'lists' labels, instead of raw ids. Wording only.

Free sample notes in Shuttio now name your objects the way the field review showed them. Read the notes under the objects table on the run page and you can tell which objects the sample covers.

What changed

A connected-CRM migration starts with a free sample. When the sample is picked, Shuttio writes short notes that say how it was chosen. These notes begin with "Sample:" and appear as short notes under the objects table on the run page.

Two things to know:

  • Names come from your review. For a custom object that the standard catalogue does not name, the note uses the name from the reviewed structure.
  • The unlinked-objects sentence names each extra top-level object. Top-level objects after the first are each sampled on their own. One of them reads like this: "Events: not linked to the other objects, so sampled separately." Two or more read like this: "Events, Fundraising and Partnerships: not linked to the other objects, so each is sampled separately."

How to use it

  1. Pick your source and destination, connect both, and choose the objects to move.
  2. Review the fields. For objects the catalogue does not name, such as a custom object, the reviewed structure is where the name in the note comes from.
  3. Start the free sample. Shuttio picks the sample records before it writes anything.
  4. Open the run page and read the amber "Sample:" lines under the objects table. They tell you:
    • which objects were sampled at random: "5% of your companies (10 to 1,000), picked at random, with their contacts, deals and activities." The 5% and the 10 to 1,000 range are the rule Shuttio applies to each top-level object;
    • which objects are not linked to the others and were sampled separately;
    • which objects the sample leaves for the full migration.
  5. If the names match what you reviewed, continue to "Run full migration". The price for Clarify and Odoo is shown before that run starts. Attio is free.

If a note names an object you did not expect, check your choice of objects before you run the full migration.

What it does not cover

The names change only the text of the notes. The sample rules are:

  • Shuttio still takes 5% of each top-level object, at least 10 and at most 1,000 records, picked at random. Linked records follow the sampled ones.
  • Lists and files are not in the sample. When the migration includes any, a note says "Lists and files move with the full migration."
  • An object that cannot be read is left out of the sample, and a note says so. The full migration moves it.
  • A CSV import has no sample, so it has no sample notes. It starts as the full run.

FAQ

Does this change which records are in my sample? No. The pick uses a stable hash of the plan, the object and the source id. The names appear only in the note text.

Where can I see the notes after the sample finishes? On the run page for the migration, under the objects table.
