Phone number rejected: missing country code
Attio refused a phone number because it has no country code or is not a valid number; add the code in your source and press "Retry all errors".
Last updated: 28 October 2026
What you see
On the run page, open the Errors tab. Under the object that holds the record, a line reads "Phone number rejected". It gives the reason ("Attio requires phone numbers in international format; this value is missing a country code or isn't a valid number."), the record ids and the next step.
Why it happens
Attio accepts phone numbers only in international format, such as +1 415 555 0100. Before writing, Shuttio adds a country code to numbers that lack one, using the country picked on the Fields step. The picker starts on US.
If a number is ambiguous, Shuttio leaves it unchanged rather than guess. Attio then rejects it. If the phone is the match key, or Attio's error does not name the phone field or quote the number, the record is not imported. Retry all errors tries it again after you fix the number.
How to fix it
- On the Errors tab, note the record ids under "Phone number rejected".
- In your source, open each record and add the country code to the phone value, for example +1 415 555 0100. If the number is not a valid number, correct it.
- Press "Retry all errors". It runs only the failed items again, matches records that already exist instead of duplicating them, and is free. More in Errors and Retry all errors.
- Next time, set "Phone numbers without a country code" on the Fields step to the country your numbers come from.
Left out instead of failed
When Attio's error names the phone field or quotes the number, the record imports without it. The Errors tab then shows "2 contacts were imported without Phone numbers", with the reason: It isn't a valid phone number (a country code may be missing). "Retry all errors" does not write that value again. Add the number in Attio by hand, with its country code.
If the same error returns after you fixed the number, email help@shuttio.com with the migration number from the run page's side rail.
